Technical Site Info
Site Map

We provide this page as a way of explaining our choices in site technology that may or may not exclude certain parties using older technology and also serves as an information source for the simply curious.

Overview

The Helicon Technology Web Site uses a combination of established methods to achieve a result which is backward compatible within reason whilst not losing touch with the advantages of new web site advancements.

The Site Supports 4th generation and above browsers but is optimised for Internet Explorer 5.5 and above. Third generation browsers (Netscape Navigator 3, Internet Explorer 3 and lower) are not supported.

We have decided not to support older browsers for the following reasons:

  • Fourth generation browser have been freely available for over 4 years
  • Third generation browsers, such as Netscape Navigator, are no longer supported by even the makers of the product themselves (Navigator 3 brings up an endless string of errors when visiting www.netscape.com for example).
  • Flexibility in graphic design, site usability and ease of site maintenance were also key factors.

Making a modern website compatible with third generation browsers means limiting the usability of a site for the great majority and increasing the design time immensely. We apologise if this inconveniences any party in any way. Our browser rejection page lists email contacts and phone contacts and Helicon Technology Staff are available to provide any information on this site that you may require.
